Engineered biochar for anaerobic digestion and wastewater treatment
Carbogenics is an industrial biotechnology company developing engineered biochar from difficult-to-recycle organic and paper waste.
Its CreChar material supports microbial activity and improves process stability in anaerobic digesters, while FilaChar is being developed for pollutant removal and improved wastewater treatment. Both use carbon-rich materials made through controlled pyrolysis.
A University of Edinburgh spin-out, the company operates research and production facilities at Roslin Innovation Centre's Agri Field Station.
