IBGRL comprises NHS Blood and Transplant laboratories in Filton, Bristol, providing specialist blood group reference testing, transfusion research and biological reagents.

Its red cell reference team investigates complex antibody and antigen cases, while IBGRL Research Products supplies monoclonal antibodies and recombinant proteins. It also provides custom antibody production, cell line development and diagnostic assay services.

Related molecular diagnostics and blood-group genotyping services at Filton are now managed by NHSBT's Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics function.
