Newcleic

Newcleic develops cell-free methods for manufacturing long DNA sequences, drawing on biochemical engineering research at UCL. Its technology aims to make complex DNA production more reliable, accessible and sustainable.

Its initial focus is agricultural biotechnology, supporting precision breeding and plant transformation. In 2026, Newcleic joined UCL and The Sainsbury Laboratory on the DEFRA-funded ExtendDNA project. The company is developing and automating its de novo synthesis process; broader therapeutic and industrial applications remain longer-term possibilities.
