Cell profiling and precision additives for biologic manufacturing

Silvia Bio is a University of Sheffield spin-out developing cell-profiling services and media additives for mammalian-cell biomanufacturing.

Its platform identifies cellular bottlenecks limiting productivity and biologic product quality, then formulates bioreactor-compatible additives to address them without genetic modification.

The technology supports Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cell processes for antibody production and other complex therapeutics. Industrial collaborations have demonstrated its approach, while the company is expanding laboratory capacity and automation.

Silvia Bio Raises £3M Seed to Accelerate Next-Generation Biomanufacturing

Silvia Bio, a University of Sheffield spinout, has raised a £3 million seed round led by Northern Gritstone, with Parkwalk, the UK Innovation & Science Seed Fund, Wren Capital and angel investors. The company profiles mammalian cell behaviour to find manufacturing bottlenecks in antibodies and gene therapies, then develops licensable media additives to improve yield and quality. The funding moves it into dedicated lab space at the Innovation Centre in Sheffield.
